Marianne L. Winfield

                                  My husband Cliff  and I  have been residents of Broward County since 1976 and I have been  a member of the real estate community since 1977.  My children and grandchildren who live in California and London are very much a part of my life and along with caring for my 91 year old mother I am kept well grounded.

 As the owner of 4 Century 21 Franchises for 15 years  the invaluable experience of building a successful team and meeting other franchisees worldwide through the Century 21 organization who were building teams and were committed to be part of their local communities help to  shape my career path.  I recognized during that time the importance of being involved in the local community. Our role as Realtors offers us many opportunities to participate in many organizations where our voice can make a difference.

 My involvement with the Broward Alliance allowed me to share the vision of the business community and economic development agencies that were planning and developing the future of our local economy.  In 2004 I was invited to participate in a regional initiative to join Broward County Mayor Ilene Lieberman as she lead a delegation to China with many members of the business community and all levels of government agencies.  My interest at the time was to see how the growth of the Chinese economy would impact the costs of cement and steel which were causing high costs of construction materials worldwide and certainly impacting the local builders associations and higher costs for the commercial and residential markets.

 With the creation of the Vision Broward initiative in 2003 the community came together to begin the process of building a sustainable environment for the future. Smart Growth Partnership was founded and became grass roots organizations for the business community, educators and Realtors to work together to educate the public officials, theirs staff and local community and neighborhood associations of what we can all do to be part of sustaining the future. I have been involved since the inception in 2005 and work closely with the Executive Director as we have become recognized as leading organization locally and part of the Smart Growth National Programs which the NAR is very involved.

 My involvement since 2003 and most recently as President with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Sister Cities has been very rewarding as I work with  35 board members who are actively involved in projects which are providing tools to people in Haiti who lost everything in the hurricanes, reforestations programs in Haiti and Ghana, student exchange programs in Italy and Taiwan, principal exchange programs and cultural exchanges with Australia, firemen, police and lifesaving professionals in exchanges in Argentina, building a school in Dominican Republic, chambers of commerce exchanges with Costa Rica  and many other humanitarian, environmental, economic development and cultural programs which are creating many introductions to the local community.

 Recently I began a new venture, Marine and Waterway Solutions, remediation of heavy metal contaminated soils and waterways.  The industrial sites which have caused much damage through the uses of chemicals has been an interest I have had for many years and now I am working with many professionals who are very involved in this field and I can see where my many years in the real estate industry, community involvement and now this opportunity to rebuild areas which were left abandoned will bring me full circle in my career.

 I was honored in 2005 as one of the Top 20 Women in Florida for Commercial Real Estate and I continue to remain in touch the women who have grown now to 100 and very involved in all phases of real estate.  I continue to attend events with our commercial Realtors, support the Government Affairs efforts and contribute RPAC.
